Richard Eyre’s career began with 16 years in advertising, where he specialised in media planning and became the first Media Director of BBH.
He has been Chief Executive of three companies – Capital Radio plc, ITV and Pearson Television. And he was a founding director of RTL plc, the largest commercial broadcasting and content group in Europe. Since 2001 he has operated in non-executive roles, including time as a Director of the Guardian Media Group and Chairman of RDF Media, I-play, Rapid Mobile and the Eden Project.
He has also completed a number of advisory roles for the government and Ofcom. He is now Chairman of the IAB, and Next 15 plc. He is also a Director of Paywizard plc, Results International and a member of the Board of Grant Thornton.
He loves music and having founded and sold a radio station in Cornwall, he has founded an internet radio station (www.radiocrimson.com) from his shed. He also loves snow. He walked to the North Pole in 2004, and in 2013 he skied 225 kilometers to the South Pole as mentor for the British ‘Walking with the Wounded’ team.
In 2013, he was awarded The Mackintosh Medal, the highest award of Britain’s marketing communications industry for ‘outstanding personal and public service to advertising.’ The medal has been awarded 38 times since 1951.
Richard was awarded a CBE for services to media and advertising in the Queen’s 2014 New Year’s Honours List.
