COVID-19 charity communications survey

Together with CharityComms we launched the COVID-19 Charity Communications Survey to understand first-hand the key challenges charities are facing at this time.

For every single one of our 219 respondents, COVID-19 has created new and unexpected communications challenges.

Key findings:

  • The top three comms challenges charities are facing are; supporting users who would normally have access to face to face services, producing digital content (films, vlogs, infographics) and moving services online.
  • Strikingly, 20% of respondents don’t know what resources are available showing the need for better signposting to resources.
  • A huge 97% would like pro bono or volunteer communications support, underscoring the opportunity for the media and creative industry to get involved and contribute resources, training and volunteer support to the charity sector.
  • Only 2% of respondents said they aren’t worried about comms challenges at this time demonstrating an overwhelming need for support.

Moving forward

With the survey results in mind, over the coming weeks and months, Media Trust will use the survey results to tailor the communications and online learning support we provide to the sector, with added support from our media and creative industry partners.

We will continue you to keep you updated on this initiative in response to our learnings from the survey. We are currently working with the media and creative industry, looking at ways they can use their skills to support charities at this time of uncertainty, and will share some of the work we will be doing with our partners as time goes on.
