Media Trust announces 2016 Volunteers of the Year

Charlene White, ITV News Presenter, ITN, and Patrick Harrison, Director of Reputation Management & Strategic Media Relations, Weber Shandwick.

Charlene(above) has been volunteering with Media Trust for the best part of a decade. Over that time she has led Media Trust’s annual Breaking Into News youth journalism initiative with ITV News and ITN, delivered many Media Trust training sessions for charities, and mentored disadvantaged and diverse young people through Media Trust’s high impact youth media initiatives. This year Charlene co-hosted the Media Trust Really Big Quiz fundraiser at Google, with Channel 4’s Krishnan Guru-Murthy, which raised over £85,000.  All of this and she still finds the time to read the news!

I think we all have a responsibility to take time out to help others - it doesn't matter how little or how much. Volunteering has an impact that many under estimate. So if you've been contemplating, and are yet to take part ... as Nike says - just do it.

Patrick Harrison and 2016 Volunteers of the year

With over 25 years of media experience, Patrick(above) offers a wealth of PR and media knowledge. Since he began volunteering with Media Trust in June 2015, Patrick has trained nearly 200 charity staff and young people to talk to the media, leading Media Trust’s monthly media interview training sessions as well as volunteering to train 64 of the Queen’s Young Leaders award winners.

I’m a passionate believer in what the Media Trust does and every time I volunteer I meet exceptional people who put others before themselves. It’s a privilege to be able to help such inspiring people.

Patrick Harrison, Director of Reputation Management & Strategic Media Relations, Weber Shandwick

Caroline Diehl MBE, Founder and Chief Executive of Media Trust said: “Media Trust’s media volunteers underpin everything we do, supporting thousands of small charities, community groups and young people to have a voice. Charlene and Patrick have given so much – their time, their skills and their belief in the charities and young people they have supported through Media Trust. Thank you!”
