Take on a Charity Challenge

The skills and knowledge possessed by those working in the media and creative industries are invaluable to the charities, community groups and young people we work with. Our Charity Challenge volunteer events give you the opportunity to spend up to a day working in teams with a charity or young person, to help them overcome their specific communications challenges.

A Media Trust volunteer event encourages professionals from across all aspects of the media industry to collaborate and share knowledge on a challenge presented to them by one of our charities. It offers a team of media creatives, who may never have worked together before, the opportunity to respond to a specific charity brief and create an action plan for them.

The right skills within your teams

Any media professional with relevant experience in media or communications (including journalism, PR, marketing, digital media, design, TV/film production, radio, branding, copy writing and broadcasting) can be part of a team. We try to encourage teams are made up of junior and senior staff from different disciplines, as it’s a great opportunity for collaboration across your organisation and the broader sector.

It was really fun to get to meet new creatives, meet like-minded people and all put our heads together and create something good for the client. It was also really eye-opening to hear about the charity and what they do.

Media Trust run a variety of Charity Challenge events from large scale public events, such as our annual Women’s Voices day to Pitch in a Day events that we run in partnership with our Corporate Partners or challenge events we run through our community capacity-building programmes, such as Stronger Voices.

How does it work?

Regardless of the size or nature of the Charity Challenge event, we make the process as quick and easy as we can for you. We will select a charity for you to work with or provide you with a choice of charities, all of which will be tailored to your specific expertise.

Working with each charity, we will identify their communications challenges to refine a detailed brief and manage and facilitate the event from start to finish. On the day, the charity and volunteers will work together on the brief and produce a robust plan for the charity to put in place.

After the event, we hope that you will be inspired to continue working with your charity to help them act upon the plans and ideas you came up with.

Volunteering with Media Trust for Bipolar UK was an exceptionally rewarding experience. I’m incredibly impressed by what Bipolar UK achieves with limited resources. Our team was thrilled to have the opportunity to build a communications strategy that will increase awareness of a devastating yet poorly-understood mental health condition.
