Become a Media Trust Films director

At Media Trust, we are experts at connecting film and directorial talent with charities looking to promote their work through powerful storytelling. Over the last decade we’ve worked with some of the industry’s most creative directors, producers, cameramen, editors and funders to provide first-class films, for free!

Whilst the films we produce span a diverse range of styles and topics, what unites them is a desire to affect positive change for charities across the UK, whether that’s by increasing brand awareness, recruiting passionate volunteers, supporting game-changing campaigning, or raising vital funds. We’re proud to work with funders City Bridge Foundation, John Lyon’s Charity and Mercers’ Foundation to ensure participating charities come away with a powerful production, at no cost to them.

Want to volunteer your time and skills to a great cause? We’re seeking directors for our Media Trust Films programme. Find out more and apply below.

As a Volunteer Director, you will be paired with a charity that reflects the causes you care about and be supported by a Media Trust Creative Producer from development through to delivery.

HOW IT WORKS:

  • Our funders nominate several charities, (at least ten per project) who would benefit from a Media Trust Film.
  • Media Trust then recruits a Volunteer Filmmaker, matching them with a charity and supporting them to produce a 3-minute film, pro-bono.
  • Individual filmmakers work closely on the development of the film with the charity and will volunteer approximately two days shooting and three days editing as part of the process. Production expenses are covered up to £1,500 (including VAT).

POST PRODUCTION:

  • As well as overseeing the matching and production process, Media Trust also trains the selected charities in social media, filmmaking and distribution strategy to help them ensure their film gets the attention it deserves, once it’s out in the world.
  • Once completed, copyright of the film belongs to the charity and they are given all assets created during the filmmaking process for their own use.
  • With the support of our funders, Media Trust hosts a screening event to celebrate the release of the films – hosted at venues including the Barbican Cinema, The Ham Yard Hotel, Curzon Soho and Roxy – where you can expand your network with like-minded charities and filmmakers.
