Host a vlogging workshop for young people

In today’s crowded media landscape, it can be difficult for young people to get their voice heard. With more than 500 hours of video content uploaded to YouTube each minute, how can our youth cut through the noise and champion the causes that are important to them in a way that is responsible, effective and empowering?

If you are a youth organisation, school or university based within London and Essex, it’s easy to get involved in Vlogstar Challenge. Simply book a free workshop and our experienced trainers will do the rest.

The workshop – developing skills and building confidence

Vlogs are short, personal video blogs and vlogging is an easy, accessible way of getting young, diverse voices out into the public. It’s also an amazing campaigning tool that will empower young people to share their opinions about issues they feel strongly about.

Delivered by Media Trust’s expert Trainers, this free, interactive workshop involves a series of practical challenges including presenting and filming fundamentals, giving participants the skills and confidence to produce engaging vlogs on issues that matter to them.

By taking part in the workshop your young people will:

  • Build confidence and agency to voice their opinion on issues they care about
  • Discover how to shoot, edit, and produce compelling video content, as well as how to promote it on the right platforms
  • Develop storytelling and presenting techniques to better tell their story

The workshop is intended to be relaxed and fun, with a series of interactive practical challenges. It will provide opportunities for skills development and participants will benefit from direct feedback from both the trainers and their fellow peers.

Thank you both for an amazing afternoon training – it was so engaging and paced so perfectly to the young peoples’ needs. I think they all went away with so many ideas, you are both so inspirational. Thank you again.

The competition

The best entries will be shortlisted by a panel of judges and invited to join in a day of expert tuition and masterclasses hosted by YouTube.

Using their newly acquired skills, they will be asked to submit a second vlog entry where the judges will select 15 finalists to take part in further training masterclasses with the professionals at YouTube.

The final 15 will be invited to the Grand Final, where one lucky vlogger will be crowned the next Vlogstar Challenge winner!

The winner will receive:

  • £500 worth of production equipment
  • £2,000 to donate to their chosen charity
  • Mentoring from YouTube’s experts
  • Work experience with a Media Trust corporate partner

Being on the programme was a fun, learning experience. I learnt about everyone’s personal goals and the connections we all made was very enjoyable. We all have powerful stories to share which made us so unique in our own way.
