Media Trust CEO Su-Mei Thompson appointed as an EHRC Commissioner

We’re delighted to announce that Media Trust CEO Su-Mei Thompson has been appointed as one of four new Commissioners to the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) Board.

The appointment, made by the Minister for Women and Equalities, Liz Truss will see Su-Mei join the Board as a new Commissioner alongside Jessica Butcher MBE, David Goodhart and Lord Riberio.

The EHRC Commissioners assist the EHRC fulfil its role as the country’s expert body on equality and human rights issues.

Truss said: “The appointments of Jessica Butcher, David Goodhart, Su-Mei Thompson and Lord Ribeiro are a positive step forward for equality in this country. Their combined expertise and experience will help the EHRC carry out its important work of upholding and advancing equality and human rights at this vital time for the United Kingdom.”

Su-Mei, who is a former member of the Equal Opportunities Commission of Hong Kong, said: “At Media Trust, it’s clear from the work we’re doing with hundreds of charities across the UK, that the gaps are widening and there has never been a greater need to listen to the voices of people with lived experience of inequality.

“I am so thrilled and honoured to have this opportunity to contribute to the important work the Commission is undertaking at a time when tackling the root causes of inequality, giving a voice to under-represented communities and ensuring young people from disadvantaged backgrounds don’t fall behind has never been more important.”
