Promising futures ahead for Creativity Works Season 12 graduates

On Thursday 10 June, our Creativity Works Season 12 trainees rounded off their time on the programme with a graduation event which was produced and led by the cohort themselves and attended by masterclass leaders and mentors from the media and creative industry.  

According to figures from the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), one in seven young people in the UK is unemployed. This figure has likely been exacerbated by the pandemic which led to widespread job losses and a hesitance to offer new opportunities to those just getting started. Creativity Works aims to support young Londoners, who are not in employment, education or training, by fuelling them with the knowledge and experience they need to get a job in the media and creative sector. 

In April we recruited 24, 16–24-year-olds for Season 12 of our Creativity Multimedia Training programme. Over the following ten weeks they attended virtual masterclasses, workshops, mentoring and career talks from top talent at leading media and creative industry organisations including; Amazon, BBC, Clear Channel UK, Facebook, Google, Hearst UK, LinkedIn, STUDIO BLUP, TikTok, Twitter and WarnerMedia. 

One of the things I loved most about the Creativity Works programme was the support of and celebration of progressive creative media companies who are having a positive impact on the world.

During the programme the trainees were set different creative tasks based on what they’d been learning that week, from recording their own podcasts and writing listicles to working on real campaign briefs and creating TikToks. Check out some of their brilliant work on their Tumblr page here.

Because of this programme, I’ve grown in confidence, strengthened my creative and teamwork skills and now have a clearer idea of where I would like to end up: working in TV and Film Production!

Media Trust’s Youth Engagement Project Manager and Creativity Works lead Simone Johnson said, The beauty of the Creativity Works programme is that it helps refine some of the already existing raw talent out there and opens their eyes to the breadth of opportunities available. The programme reassures young adults from underrepresented groups and gives them the tools and the confidence to take a seat at the table in the media and creative industry.
