You’ve probably heard ‘all publicity is good publicity’, but we know that’s not always the case. Bad publicity for charities can damage their reputation and great work, affect their funding, or alienate their audiences. However, is it possible to turn the attention around to focus onto your messages? Or could you forecast the negative attention and act early to prevent it? Of course, you can!
In this workshop, you’ll learn how to handle bad news and negative attention. We’ll give you the knowledge on how to manage yourself, your organisation, and the media under pressure, leaving you feeling prepared to protect your reputation in a PR crisis.

Meet your expert trainers
Chris Philipsborn
Managing Partner, Kreab London
Chris has extensive senior management and commercial experience, having served on three management boards, with briefs ranging from steering a large UK outsourcer to a successful trade sale, and being part of the senior management team during the UK’s then largest ever public sector tender process at Sellafield Ltd.
Chris began his career as a journalist and worked briefly for ABC News, French wire service AFP, the Business desk at LBC Radio and UK News. He covered the UK Parliament as Lobby Correspondent and wrote extensively from Latin America for the Financial Times and The Economist. He broadcast numerous despatches for the BBC World Service including for well know programmes such as From Our Own Correspondent, Newshour and World Business Report.
He specialises in reputational and crisis communications for a range of clients including governments, HNW individuals, global corporates, hedge funds, NGOs and AIM listed companies. He is a dual US/UK national and fluent in French. Chris is longstanding a member of the European Government Business Relations Council.
Jane Kerr
Director
As a former Assistant News Editor and Royal Editor of the Daily Mirror, and Features Editor on The Sunday Mirror, Jane has over 20 years’ experience across major UK media outlets.
Prior to joining Kreab, Jane worked as Head of Communications for a leading UK listed company, where she prepared senior executives for all public speaking engagements. The company worked from 110 locations in the UK, and in Australia and Saudi Arabia, with 1,800 employees, and Jane worked closely with the CEO and Board members to create and deliver external and stakeholder communications strategy, manage busy communications department and handle reactive and proactive communications across all areas of the organisation. At Kreab, she has continued to manage high profile companies and individuals through periods of crisis, managing all communications output, and liaising directly with global media titles.
Jane has broad professional training, having qualifications ranging from Crisis Management to Copywriting. As an experienced journalist, Jane is able to identify and create compelling content that will appeal to top tier newspapers and online media.
