Accessible content creation for charities

20 Aug

Wednesday 20 August 2025 10:00 - 12:00

Your beginner’s guide to creating content that removes barriers and prioritises accessibility for all.

Why accessible content matters

Did you know around 20% of the population live with a disability? Yet despite this, much of the content we create online still isn’t fully accessible. Whether it’s a newsletter that’s isn’t screen reader friendly, or a social media post without alt text, many people can be unintentionally excluded from your charity’s messaging due to inaccessible content.

What you’ll learn

In this practical workshop, we’ll show you how to create simpler, clearer, and more accessible content for your charity. Key topics will include ensuring proper colour contrast, understanding the pitfalls with digital documents, writing in plain English, and optimising your content for ultimately readability. You’ll also gain insights into how small changes can make a significant difference in accessibility and usability, enabling more people to engage with your message.

We’ll explore:

  • The importance of accessible communication and why it matters for your charity.
  • How to improve accessibility across key channels like websites, social media, and newsletters.
  • Practical steps to make your charity’s content more inclusive for all audiences including disabled users.
  • Tools and resources to help assess and improve your content’s accessibility.
  • How to improve your confidence in designing accessible content that broadens your charity’s reach and impact.
