Free Social Media & PR Workshop for Charities in Birmingham

13 Feb

Tuesday 13 February 2018 15:00 - 19:45

Calling all Birmingham Charities & Community Groups – join Media Trust, Google and the Birmingham Mail for an exclusive free event!

This unique event organised by Media Trust in partnership with Google and the Birmingham Mail will provide Birmingham charities & community organisations with vital PR and social media training, advice and support.

Part One: Google Workshop

The first part of the event will be a workshop hosted by Google on how to create a social media strategy based on your organisations goals. After the presentation, you’ll have opportunity to speak directly with the Google team and receive small group coaching on your specific charity needs.

You will learn:

  • The key social media platforms to use in 2018
  • How to build a social media strategy based on your 2018 goals
  • How to define your brand guidelines for use on social media

Part Two: Birmingham Mail Speed-pitching session

You will then be joined by 12 volunteer journalists from the Birmingham Mail for a Speed-pitching event, where you will hone your networking skills and pitch your stories to professionals. The event is based on a Speed-dating format, giving you the opportunity to ‘date’ each journalist for five minutes. Come armed with your stories and press releases for this engaging 1-2-1 session and get expert advice on how you can engage your audience and communicate your stories more effectively.

Please note that this event is only for charities, CICs and Social Enterprises!

It is the first time I have done a Speedmatching event – what a great experience! I am impressed and strongly recommend this to everyone.

Who should attend?

If you deal with the communications within your charity then this event will be perfect for you.

You will have direct access to the Google team for personalised advice coaching on your specific needs. You will also have the chance to get 1-2-1 advice from volunteer journalists on how to more effectively frame their messages and communicate their stories more compellingly.

Who knows, you may potentially recruit a new volunteer to support you and your charity.

Register now

If you think you and your organisation will benefit from this event, then register today.  All you need to do is click the ‘Register now’ button above and enter your details on the subsequent Eventbrite page.

Before the event

To ensure you get the very most out of this event (and to help our volunteers prepare), we need you to tell us about the comms challenge you want to discuss with our volunteers at the event.

If you can’t make it then don’t worry: you can also submit any communications related request via our Volunteer Platform

It is really quick and simple, just follow these three steps:

  1. Log in and go to your Volunteer dashboard. (If you haven’t already, register your charity now. It will only take a couple of minutes)
  2. Follow the link on your dashboard to ‘Create an Opportunity’ (This will appear when you have registered your charity). Use this to outline your challenge and what you would like our volunteers to help you with during the event.

For our Speedmatching events to work effectively, we rely on all participants turning up, if you register but are then unable to attend the event, please email alicem@mediatrust.org as soon as possible so we can offer your spot to another charity.
