Storytelling Through Photography

18 Sep

BBH London, W1B 5DS

Tuesday 18 September 2018 10:00 - 16:00

We live in a highly visual world. The brain processes visuals 60,000 times faster than words alone, and while people only remember 20% of what they read, they remember 80% of what they see. That's why photos are essential in helping us to communicate with our audiences and tell stories that have an impact.

This one-day workshop will equip you with the knowledge and practical expereince to tell stories through photographs for marketing and communications purposes. This is a hands-on photography experience aimed at people working in the charity sector and non-professional photographers who want to tell compelling stories through photos.

Participants will be given the opportunity to shoot a photo story based on what you’ve learnt and receive feedback and support from our expert trainer who will help you to edit your photos into a short story.

What you will cover:

  • An introduction to Adobe Bridge (an archiving and captioning program) and Adobe Photoshop (for retouching images)
  • How to caption and send an image ready for editorial use; size, resolution and format
  • We will talk through images from each participant and discuss how they could be improved
  • Using examples, we will look at composition and use of light

What to bring:

  • Five photographs for discussion
  • A digital camera (quality and size not important) or smart phone with camera
  • A laptop if possible (alternatively Media Trust can provide you with one if you let us know ahead of time)
  • Adobe Bridge and Adobe Photoshop (CS5) will be used for the training – if participants have this on their laptops already it would be good to bring along
