Home-Start Lambeth

Filmmaker needed to capture a family’s story for future fundraising appeals

We have been approached by a family who are passionate about the impact our support has had on them. They want to help promote our service to funders so that we can support more families the way we have helped them.

We want to create a short film with this family (no more than 5 minutes) that we can use on social media, on our website, at events, and directly with funders. We are looking for a volunteer who can position this family's story for maximum impact while ensuring that the key message is empowering and strengths-based.

The skills we are looking for in a volunteer are:

  • filmmaking and editing
  • storytelling
  • empathy

We would like the filmmaker to first meet with the family to build trust and rapport. We will then meet again to storyboard, developing key themes for the film. Filming would take place in the family home, and a rough edit would then be shared with the family for us to agree on a final cut together.

Advice about the final release of the film for maximum impact would also be much appreciated to maximise potential fundraising and generate further support for our charity (e.g., through volunteering).

We know that the early years are critical. That's why Home-Start Lambeth walks alongside families when their children are young to prevent crisis and help their children thrive. We aim to help families meet their immediate needs; to improve health and wellbeing; to connect families with their community; and to improve the life chances of children through positive parenting and a secure parent-infant bond.

Our core service is recruiting and training local parent volunteers to offer weekly friendship, practical help and emotional support in the family home. We offer consistent support over several months, boosting parents' self-esteem and confidence while building their skills and helping them cope with the pressures of family life.

In the words of one of our families:

“[HS Lambeth] helped me become a better parent building my confidence helping me get organize [sic], manage my time better get into routines, helped so much with ideas and techniques on how to help babies sleep better, supported me on down days when I could not cope and felt like I was letting everyone down”
