The partnership will see ten powerful new short films made that champion the voices of women and girls

Media Trust announced today a partnership with UN Women UK and Crucible Foundation that will lead to the creation of ten short films amplifying the voices and lived experiences of women and girls in the UK.

Produced by Media Trust Films, the shorts will spotlight grassroots organisations tackling gender inequality and advancing women’s rights. The films centre on the theme of trauma and violence against women, exploring often under-reported issues such as public harassment of girls, homelessness resulting from sexual abuse, and domestic violence within faith-based communities. Each film aims to raise awareness and support much-needed fundraising efforts for the charities involved

This slate continues Media Trust’s model of pairing values-driven, experienced filmmakers with frontline organisations that lack the budget to produce creative content with high production value.

Su-Mei Thompson, CEO of Media Trust, said, “Despite the scale of the need, organisations supporting women and girls receive less than 2% of charitable grant funding in the UK. Media Trust’s unique model of matching volunteer professional filmmakers looking to use their skills to give back with charities looking for help with their storytelling and social media means we can bring important stories to life that otherwise wouldn’t be told.”

Tabitha Morton, Executive Director of UN Women UK, said “At UN Women UK, our mission is to ensure that ALL women and girls have access to safety, choice, and a voice. Voice means more than being heard – it means being seen, believed, and valued. That’s why we’re so proud to partner with Media Trust to bring to life the stories of organisations across the UK working towards gender equality. Stories have the power to connect us on a deeper level – whether by letting someone know they’re not alone, shining a light on a vital cause, or shifting perspectives to drive real change. By amplifying these voices, we move closer to a world where equality is not just an ideal, but a lived experience for all.”

Celia Taylor, Head of Films at Media Trust, shared, “Every film in this slate is rooted in lived experience. Whether it’s a young woman rebuilding her life after leaving an abusive relationship or a local leader driving change in her community, these are stories that deserve to be seen, heard and felt.”

The ten films will be rolled out across Media Trust and UN Women UK platforms in early 2026.
