Friday 8 March 2024 09:30 - 16:30
Celebrate International Women’s Day with us at our annual Women’s Voices event! Every year, we bring together over 100 talented professionals from across the media and creative industry to share their expertise with 30 charities advocating for and supporting women and girls to raise their profile and give more women a voice.
Volunteer applications for Women’s Voices have finished.
Rosa, the UK fund for women and girls, revealed in its new research that charities run by and for women and girls received just 1.8% of the total income of grants awarded to the charity sector. There is a real danger that women and girls’ organisations are being undervalued, underfunded, and almost invisible to policymakers, funders and politicians. Facing rising levels of inequality, the cost–of–living crisis and the upcoming general election, our charities need volunteer support now more than ever.
We’re looking for 150 media and creative professionals to volunteer at our Women’s Voices event on Friday 8 March 2024. Lend your skills for a day of innovation, strategic thinking and expert advice to help strengthen the campaigns and communications of charities supporting women and girls.
You will join a team of two to four media and creative industry volunteers and be matched with an organisation based on your specific skillset. As a team, you will spend the day working on the charity’s specific communications goal, discussing solutions and providing strategic media, creative and campaign advice.
Before the event, you will be sent your charity’s communications brief and introduced to your team. Media Trust will also host a virtual volunteer briefing session – taking place on Friday 1 March 2023 – where you can hear more about the event and ask questions.
Such a fulfilling experience working with a charity that does such incredible worthwhile work. A truly inspiring day that made great use of our skills.

Your skills are invaluable to charities. We’re looking for creatives, content makers, marketeers, journalists, planners, strategists, digital and social media experts, PR specialists, campaigners and more.
Ever struggled to make use of that annual workplace volunteering day? This is your chance to use your time and skills to affect real positive change by helping to develop creative solutions that drive action for women and girls’ charities.
All we ask is that you have a minimum of two years’ experience working within the media or creative industry. You don’t have to identify as a woman to apply – we positively welcome applications from people of all genders.
Volunteer applications for Women’s Voices have finished.
Places are limited. Volunteers will be selected based on having relevant skills and experience that match with a charity’s specific communications goal. Please note that by applying to volunteer you will not automatically be accepted.
If you have any questions about Women’s Voices or the application process, including any adjustments to help you apply, please contact Carly Bell on carlyb@mediatrust.org
Our commitment to equalities and inclusion
Women’s Voices is a space for all women, including and in particular those from marginalised communities and underrepresented backgrounds, including lesbian and bisexual women, trans women, neurodiverse and disabled women and black and minoritised women.
At Media Trust, we proudly work to ensure our programme and event environments feel safe, supportive and inclusive for all of those taking part. And we ask that partners and participants help us to do the same.
The event is taking place at Google Academy London, situated on a floor easily accessible via lifts. We will make every effort to ensure the event space is accommodating to all attendees, including a sensory quiet space, a prayer room and wheelchair-accessible seating for maximum comfort. Media Trust staff will be readily available throughout the event to address any specific requirements.
What a fulfilling and inspirational day. I learned so much about the difficulties faced by women from different backgrounds and it felt good to be able to use my own skills and knowledge to support other women.

Liz is an equity, diversity and inclusion consultant across the charity and sports sectors.
She is an educator, collaborator and activist at heart, who first found her feet in Climate Justice after graduating in Zoology. Her journey into the charity sector began with radical youth work, working in all kinds of educational environments to support young people in harnessing the power of social justice.
Passionate about safeguarding, she spent time managing a youth project in London, working with survivors of exploitation, whilst also supporting policy makers and community leaders to operate with a trauma informed praxis.
As a charity leader, Liz was previous Director of Programmes at The Advocacy Academy, the UK’s only Social Justice Leadership programme, where she supported young activists to launch campaigns focussing on decolonising the curriculum, police brutality, anti-racism and air pollution, to name just a few. Most recently she held the role of Director of Programmes at Stonewall, Europe’s biggest LGBTQ+ Human Rights Organisation.
She can be found on all social media at @lizmaryward usually talking about her first love, football.
Women’s Voices 2024 is supported by People’s Postcode Lottery whose players have raised more than £1.2 billion for thousands of charities and local good causes. The Postcode Lottery Group also operates charity lotteries in the Netherlands, Sweden, Germany and Norway.
