Kamal Ahmed

Executive Editorial Director, UK and Europe at Fortune

Kamal Ahmed is the Executive Editorial Director for the UK and Europe at Fortune, overseeing the publication’s editorial strategy, journalism and regional growth.

He joined Fortune after spending around 18 months at The Telegraph, where he was a columnist and director of audio. At The Telegraph, Kamal launched the daily news podcast The Daily T in May 2024, co-hosting it with Camilla Tominey until summer 2025. He also served as a senior interviewer and commentator.

In 2021, Kamal co-founded The News Movement, a social-first publisher aimed at young people, where he served as editor-in-chief. The organisation focuses on reaching new audiences through digital-native storytelling and social platforms.

Previously, Kamal held a series of senior leadership and editorial roles at BBC News. Between 2018 and 2021 he was Editorial Director and a member of both the BBC News Board and the BBC Sounds Board. From 2016 to 2018 he was Economics Editor, having joined the BBC in 2014 as Business Editor from the Telegraph Media Group, where he had been Executive Business Editor.

Earlier in his career, Kamal was Group Director of Communications at the Equality and Human Rights Commission, Executive Editor, News, at The Observer, and Political Editor of The Observer between 2000 and 2004. He also held roles at The Guardian and Scotland on Sunday.

A graduate of Leeds University in Political Studies, Kamal is the author of The Life and Times of a Very British Man, published by Bloomsbury in 2018.
