Creativity Works: Multimedia Genius Training

Helping young Londoners break into the creative industries

Applications for Season 7 now open!

Creativity Works: Multimedia Genius Training, supported by Mayor’s Fund for London and Berkeley Foundation is a free, intensive 10-week crash-course of high-impact media masterclasses and employment skills training for media-focused young Londoners who are not in employment, education or training.

Season 7 will run from Monday 17 September to 23 November 2018. Sign up here!

Practical Training

The scheme is delivered in two phases; the first six-weeks includes practical media masterclasses, facilitated by top-class media professionals, and visits to big-brand media companies such as: Google, ITN and Oath.

Each week follows a different media-theme, such as: photography, digital media, journalism, TV and radio. During which, participants learn the nuts and bolts of each area and get the chance to apply their new skills.

The content created is uploaded onto a dedicated Creativity Works Tumblr page, which is then shared far and wide on social media. Find out how our Season 6 cohort got on.

I was given opportunities I would never have thought possible; from creating a video which was shown at the BBC and sharing a room with Naughty Boy, to getting behind the walls of some of greatest media companies out there including: Sky, ITV and Google.

Mentoring

In the latter stages of the programme we focus on employability skills. Each young person is paired with a media mentor who provides 1-2-1 career mentoring and coaching. At this stage in the programme they also take part in workshops covering: CV development, cover letter writing, and job interview techniques. In doing so, they will develop a unique understanding of the job application process.

Re-live the best moments from this round of Creativity Works: Multimedia Genius Training - Season 6! From masterclasses run by top-class media professionals, visits to major creative companies AND talks from the likes of: Michael Dapaah, Clara Amfo, Femi Oyeniran and Anita Rani, our trainees never experienced a dull moment.

Graduation

At the end of the programme, we celebrate the young people’s achievements with a graduation ceremony. At this point they are job-ready and well on their way to finding paid work in the media industry.

Success Stories

Become a mentor

Mentoring is a rewarding experience, which can be hugely beneficial to a young person. Your insight and first hand experience of the creative industries can help get them work ready, improve their confidence and bolster their resilience. For someone who is interested in the creative and media industries, but may not have come across the right opportunities, your advice and encouragement could be life changing.

Applications for mentors will open in September 2018.

In the meantime, find out why you should be a mentor.
