Movies on a Mobile

14 Dec

Thursday 14 December 2017 10:00 - 16:00

In this practical workshop, learn the skills needed to plan, script, record and edit professional videos on a small budget. Telling your stories through film will help raise your profile, promote your work and create a buzz around your campaigns.

Video has become integral to marketing and communications. It gives you the chance to tell your story in a way that grabs attention unlike any other medium. As digital marketing and social media moves towards film and visual content, it is vital to be able to create eye-catching films to share with your audiences. With advances in mobile technology, it is now possible to capture great quality film on a device that you carry around in your pocket, you just need to know how!

Ideal for you

If you need to learn the basics but have limited budget and little or no experience. This course will provide a practical hands-on introduction to making video content.

It was a good combination of technical and creativity. Doing the filming was really fun so I definitely want to go back to work and do more.

Find Your Feet

Back at work you’ll:

  • Understand how to plan and prepare before filming
  • Learn the theory behind framing interviews and shooting cutaways and action sequences
  • Know more about the equipment and methods needed to get good sound
  • Get started on cheaply editing your footage into user-friendly videos for YouTube and other websites
  • Understand how to work with lighting, sound, picture, background and equipment

Came to course with zero proper knowledge of shooting videos. Left with a great deal.

Preparing for this course

Ahead of this course it is important that you complete the following steps so that your phone or tablet is ready for making films:

  • Video takes up quite a lot of space on a smartphone and you may have to shoot up to 10 min of video during the morning session, that’s around 1GB of memory. It would be very useful if you can clear space on your phone either by deleting unwanted videos or downloading content from your phone onto a hard drive or your Cloud account
  • If you have a hands-free device for your phone, do bring this with you as they make really useful lapel microphones for recording interviews
  • Ensure your phone battery is charged and/or bring a charger cable with you

Do I need to bring anything with me?

Bring your phone!

If you have a hands-free device for your phone, do bring this with you as well, as they make really useful lapel microphones for recording interviews.
