Creating a social media strategy that works for your charity

02 Dec 09 Dec

Wednesday 2 December 2026 - Wednesday 9 December 2026 10:00 - 12:00

A two-day intermediate workshop to help your charity create a social media strategy that achieve real impact

Does your charity’s social media feel like a constant cycle of creating content without knowing whether it’s actually making a difference? You’re not alone. Many charities post regularly but struggle to connect their social media activity to meaningful outcomes, whether that’s reaching new supporters, recruiting volunteers or raising more funds.

This practical two-part workshop will help you step back from day-to-day posting and build a social media strategy that works. Across two online sessions, you’ll learn how to set clear goals, understand your audience, choose the right platforms, and create a content plan that’s realistic for your team’s capacity.

By the end of the workshop, you’ll have the foundations of a social media strategy you can put into practice straight away.

If you are a Postcode Lottery grantee and the session is fully booked or your code isn’t being accepted, please email osianb@mediatrust.org to be added to the waitlist.

What you’ll learn

Over two sessions, we’ll cover:

Day one: Strategy & audience

  • How to set clear, measurable goals for your social media activity.
  • How to define and understand your target audience, and what they actually want from your charity on social.
  • How to choose the right platforms for your goals and audience, rather than trying to be everywhere at once.
  • How to audit your existing social media activity and identify opportunities to improve.

Day two: Content & planning

  • How to develop content that supports your goals, rather than simply filling a content calendar.
  • How to build a realistic content plan your team can maintain consistently.
  • How to balance different types of content, from awareness to fundraising asks.
  • How to measure success and use insights to continually improve your social media strategy

Who should attend?

Perfect for charity professionals responsible for social media, communications or marketing who already have a basic understanding of social media and want to take a more strategic approach.

Whether you’re managing social media on your own or as part of a wider team, this workshop will help you plan with more confidence and purpose.
