Ethical storytelling for charities

10 Nov

Tuesday 10 November 2026 10:00 - 12:00

Learn how to tell powerful stories that protect dignity, build trust and put people first

This was incredibly useful, with lots of practical tools that I can use right away and that I can also use for guidelines I'm writing for others in my charity.

Every story your charity tells shapes how people understand your work and the people behind it. Done well, storytelling can inspire action, build trust and strengthen your reputation. Done poorly, it can unintentionally reinforce stereotypes, undermine dignity, or damage relationships with the people you’re trying to support.

This practical workshop explores the principles of ethical storytelling, helping you tell stories with care, respect and meaningful consent. With interactive exercises and time for discussion, this session will help you feel more confident in applying an ethical lens to your comms and fundraising content.

Through real charity examples, practical tools and discussion, you’ll learn how to gather and share stories that reflect your values while engaging supporters authentically.

If you are a Postcode Lottery grantee and the session is fully booked or your code isn’t being accepted, please email osianb@mediatrust.org to be added to the waitlist.
