The Fundamentals of Filmmaking

17 Sep

Media Trust - WeWork, SW1W 9SH

Tuesday 17 September 2019 09:30 - 17:00

100 million hours of video are watched on Facebook every day and experts say one minute of video is worth 1.8 million words*. That's why in today's 'video-first' world, it's more important than ever for organisations to be using video content as part of their communications strategy.

With this practical one-day workshop, you’ll learn the basic skills needed to create videos from scratch, using limited resources without sacrificing on quality. A hands-on learning environment will get you using your phone to make content and equip you with the skills to begin shooting videos for your charity right away.

You’ll be led by an expert filmmaker, with experience producing high-quality charity films, who will give you the opportunity to ask questions about the filming style and equipment that best suits your needs. Your training will end with the chance to practice what you’ve learned by filming and editing a short piece with support and feedback from your trainer.

This beginners course is ideal for you if you want to start using film for your organisation’s communications but have limited experience and budget.

About the trainer:

Tom is an award-winning (The Drum, Cannes Corporate, EVCOM) director at Raw London, a multi-award winning full-service video strategy, production and distribution agency. He has extensive experience working with the third sector to deliver incredible films such as War Child UK’s #EscapeRobot film and British Red Cross’s #EveryRefugeeMatters campaign film for Refugee Week 2019.

I feel more confident in my ability to make decent footage, which will help with improving my organisation's video based content.

Building and Social Housing Foundation

At the end of this training you will:

  • Be able to choose the right equipment for your budget and needs
  • Understand the digital filmmaking process from pre- to post-production
  • Know how to shoot and edit good quality interviews, vox pops and films on a mobile

Equipment:

Please bring your own laptop with an editing software downloaded onto it, such as Adobe Premiere Pro. You’ll receive more information on this prior to the workshop.

Please bring the smartphone or DSLR that you will be using to shoot when you return to work as these will not be provided.

The new skills will help us promote our social media channels with authentic footage.
