Write Compelling Case Studies

07 Nov

Media Trust - WeWork, SW1W 9SH

Thursday 7 November 2019 09:30 - 13:00

Writing engaging case studies has never been so important in showcasing your charity's impact. Putting a human face on your activity is one of the most effective and memorable ways to inspire confidence in your organisation and its work.

This practical half-day workshop will help to ensure you’re using your beneficiary stories in the right way, to demonstrate the impact of your work and encourage funders, supporters and volunteers to invest in your organisation. You’ll learn effective storytelling techniques to communicate your messages in the right way across a wide range of platforms. You’ll also explore strategies for collecting case studies in a post-GDPR world and learn how to set metrics to measure your impact.

Through this training you’ll learn to:

  • Use storytelling to inspire action and tailor your case studies to your objectives
  • Communicate your case studies through PR, marketing and digital channels
  • Draw on user-generated content to produce compelling case studies
  • Create a system for collecting case studies at your organisation

It has given me the confidence to take ownership of the stories process at Scope and influence the press team to change the ways we produce press releases.

About the trainer:

Karen Ackerman, Director of Mediastories

Karen Ackerman is founder and director of Mediastories which offers training, consultancy and production to help charities, voluntary organisations and community groups to gain the digital media skills they need to tell their stories with the most impact. Karen has run interactive workshops on digital storytelling, social media and simple filmmaking for clients such as Media Trust and The Directory for Social Change. She also provides consultancy for The Wohl Foundation and Jewish Care and social media support to clients such as Camp Simcha. Mediastories has also made films for PJ Library, JW3, Mitzvah Day and the New Israel Fund.

Karen trained as a journalist, starting her career at BBC Five Live. Having moved into television, she then built up a career in children’s production at the BBC, including making short films for Record Breakers and producing Blue Peter.

She then spent three years working for the BBC Academy, the largest and most prestigious training department in the UK media sector. Karen ran an innovative project to help BBC staff learn new skills by working with charities and other non profits and helping them with their media.

It was a well-rounded training session that covered lots of bases and gave clean and concise examples. Very useful.
