Young Citizens

Copywriting support for citizenship education charity

About us

Young Citizens has been delivering and designing relevant, inspiring and skills-building citizenship education for nearly 40 years, reaching over a million young people to date. As a leading provider of lessons and in-school active citizenship, we help make it possible for all state schools across the UK to deliver compelling and reliable citizenship education that empowers young people to take part in their communities, democracy and society. Through our interactive programmes and free, easy-to-use lessons, we enable schools to find the citizenship offer that fits their needs to nurture knowledgeable, inspired and active young citizens.

About the opportunity

The Government has recently committed to backing citizenship education in the curriculum, including making it mandatory in primary schools and expanding its scope across all age groups. We want to capitalise on this and help even more schools access our work. To do this, we need support to tell our story and demonstrate our impact. That's why we are looking for a volunteer copywriter. Can you write for a range of different audiences? Can you influence readers with a compelling story whilst meeting a tight brief? We'd love to hear from you!

Charity Details

Young Citizens is a UK charity that enables schools and colleges to deliver interactive citizenship education for children and young people.

Established in 1989 by Lord Phillips OBE and a group of democracy education experts, we believe citizenship should play a part in every young person’s education before leaving school to help them thrive in and contribute to society today.

From ready-made lesson plans to immersive programmes, we help you offer engaging yet flexible learning experiences – both as part of the required curriculum and beyond.

Working with a huge network of schools and partners, we deliver learning experiences that light the spark of active citizenship from an early age.

We want to empower children and young people to shape their communities, institutions and society, building skills and knowledge for life.
