Steady State Manchester

Help Make a Short Film About SSM’s Work Towards Degrowth in Greater Manchester

This is a creative brief for a volunteer to make a short film introducing Steady State Manchester, a membership organisation, run by a core collective, advocating for a radically different approach to economic and social development in the Greater Manchester city-region.

We work towards a future where everyone can live well and within planetary limits, drawing inspiration from ideas about degrowth, post-growth, and steady state economy.

We seek a visual designer or digital designer to create a short film (3-4 minutes) that introduces SSM as an organisation.

The film should communicate that endless economic growth is incompatible with human and planetary health, inviting viewers to consider what socioecological justice in the city-region might mean and how it might look.

It should highlight our advocacy work and opportunities to get involved with the organisation.

We envision the film including short clips of interviews with SSM collective members, integrated with videographic, animation, text, or other visual materials.

The film should leave audiences with a clear sense that Steady State Manchester is building a future where people and planet flourish together, demonstrating that prosperity can be measured by healthy communities, meaningful lives, and a resilient environment rather than continual economic expansion.
