Postcode Lottery Mentoring Programme

Applications are now open for our November 2026 cohort

Media Trust’s Postcode Lottery Mentoring Programme, delivered in partnership with Postcode Lottery, connects experienced communications professionals with charities across the UK.

The programme supports 40 charities that are grant holders of Postcode Lottery, delivered across two cohorts each year. These charities have received funding through the independent Postcode Trusts to support their work in communities across the UK.

What’s involved?

As a mentor, you’ll be paired with a member of charity staff and meet one-to-one for up to four hours per month over six months, either online or in person.

The exact focus will depend on your mentee’s needs. You might help them think through a communications challenge, review their current approach, develop a strategy or provide an outside perspective that helps them decide what to do next.

Using your expertise, you’ll act as a sounding board. You’ll ask questions, share practical advice and help your mentee build the confidence to take their charity’s communications forward.

Why become a mentor?

Your experience could make a huge difference to a charity that doesn’t have the same access to communications expertise as a larger organisation.

In return, mentoring gives you the opportunity to:

  • Use your professional skills for a cause that matters
  • Develop your coaching, listening and leadership skills
  • Gain a fresh perspective by working with someone outside your usual sector
  • Learn more about the work of charities and communities across the UK
  • Make a meaningful contribution in just a few hours of your time

Who should apply?

We’re looking for professionals will experience in:

  • Advertising
  • Branding
  • Copywriting
  • Digital strategy
  • Graphic design
  • Internal communications
  • Marketing
  • PR and journalism
  • Social media
  • Websites

What impact could you make?

Here’s what one charity from our current cohort had to say about their mentoring experience so far.

It has already been incredibly helpful to have an external perspective on our social media and marketing. We're really enjoying reviewing what we're doing and making meaningful changes, both big and small.
