Mentor a charity

We’re looking for a cohort of mentors to support a group of 20 small London-based youth charities to strengthen their communications capacity and overcome their strategic communications challenges.

Mentoring is a uniquely rewarding experience, beneficial for both mentees and mentors. By giving charities the opportunity to learn from your experiences and tackling their strategic communications challenges you’ll help them to better tell the story of their work and build their supporter base. All the while, this relationship will give you insights into causes you care about, and an idea of how valuable your skills are to the UK charity sector.

The opportunity

As part of our Capacity Support Programme, delivered in partnership with John Lyon’s Charity, we’re offering 20 charities the opportunity to be matched with a skilled communications specialist for between four and six months of mentoring starting in early 2022.

We’re looking for 20 volunteers who can commit between four and six hours each month over this period to support a charity with a communications challenge they currently face.

We’re looking for enthusiastic and committed individuals that can meet monthly with their charity mentee(s) either virtually or face-to-face, to offer strategic advice in the following areas:

  • Social media
  • Data and analytics
  • Digital strategy
  • Campaign planning

I decided to volunteer as I firmly believe in the incredible work that these charities/organisations are doing. The best bit of volunteering was feeling like your knowledge could make an impact on their strategy. This experience has made me realise that I have a set of skills that may seem standard to me but are required in today’s new Covid world and I have a duty to help smaller organisations transition digitally.

Volunteers will be selected based on having relevant skills and experience that match with a charity’s specific communications challenge.
