Our approach

We pride ourselves on sensitive, collaborative filmmaking that puts charities and lived experience at the heart of every project. Working alongside some of the industry’s most creative directors, producers, crew and editors, we craft films and social media content shaped by real voices and real stories.

The result? Films that inform, inspire action, and drive meaningful impact, consistently recognised across the industry for their quality and storytelling.

Our productions are made possible through partnerships with leading funders, including City Bridge Foundation, Crucible Foundation, John Lyon’s Charity, The Mercers’ Company and The Santander Foundation. Every film reflects the unique work of the charity, while amplifying their voice and mission to a wider audience.

Collaborating with such a passionate and creative team has been a real pleasure and we’re deeply grateful for their dedication to telling our story with care and impact.

How it works

We collaborate with funders to develop comprehensive filmmaking programmes, including charity training in production, knowing your audience, social media, and distribution. Funders either select charities they support or we help administer an application process.

Once onboard, our Films team selects the most suited professional volunteer filmmakers to help bring each story to life. Our Executive Producers guide the charities throughout production, managing all editorial and legal issues and work with the film makers to ensure the charities gain maximum value from the programme.

When the film is completed along with social media assets, the charity receive full copyright for their own use on all platforms. We often celebrate the films with screenings at prestigious venues including the BFI, Barbican, ICA, Everyman Cinema, and Curzon Soho – honouring both the charities and the talented volunteer filmmakers who brought their stories to life.

We are always looking for talented, experienced and passionate creatives to join us in delivering these fantastic films. Apply to volunteer below!

Commissioned films

If your charity isn’t supported by one of our partner funders, but you have a budget you can commission us to make a bespoke film. Media Trust Films can produce professional films with the same expertise and care, making quality filmmaking accessible to more organisations.

Interested in a commissioned film? Contact Celia at celiat@mediatrust.org for a budget outline tailored to your needs.

We couldn't have hoped for a more ambitious and generous partnership and are privileged to work with a creative team that shares our values and aspirations.

Not often as a commercial director are you afforded the opportunity to produce a piece of work for an organisation that shares the same fundamental motivations and purpose as you. This project allowed me to draw on both my early work as a filmmaker and my personal experiences as a second-generation immigrant in the UK. This film is no exception.

Volunteer Director, City Bridge Foundation Slate 2024-25
