Simple but effective ways to make your website better
Having an up-to-date and accessible website puts charities in the best position to raise awareness of their cause, recruit volunteers, and increase their fundraising. But managing a website can be hard, particularly when you don’t have a big budget or an in-house digital guru to turn to.
That’s why Media Trust is creating resources and training tailored specifically for small charities with little to no budget. Websites Unlocked aims to help your organisation optimise your website with the latest low-cost tools and strategies, improving its accessibility and impact and driving your stakeholders to action.
What support is available through Websites Unlocked?
Websites Unlocked will help you to:
Increase your skills, knowledge, and confidence in managing and editing your website
Improve your digital storytelling with more authentic, concise and compelling website copy and content showcasing the work and impact of your organisation and driving action from your stakeholders
Increase your charity’s visibility, reaching new audiences through your website
Websites Unlocked Toolkit: An exciting new resource, tailored for charities, that suggests simple, but effective steps you can take to improve your website.
Digital Drop-In Clinics: We will run informal online sessions hosted by digital and IT experts from Media Trust’s industry tech partners and pro bono support from WCIT industry-leading volunteers. Come along, ask questions about your website, and meet other digital charity comms professionals. Topics will include accessibility, security, content strategy, and SEO.
Website Unlocked Masterclasses: We will be running free, online masterclasses, open to the whole charity sector. We will share insights into what makes an effective website, and practical steps that your charity can take to improve your web presence, accessibility and increases engagement.
Why have we developed Websites Unlocked?
The Charity Digital Skills Report 2022 found that more than half of charities (51%) want to review their websites, and build the digital confidence and skills of their staff and volunteers but face multiple barriers including:
Lack of funding
Limited budgets including staff, training, and equipment
Lack of access to pro bono support
