Our heritage defines us. It tells the story of who we are, where we’re from and how we’ve come to be who we are today. It is everywhere we look. In our towns, cities, and villages; in our historic buildings, monuments and landmarks, our beautiful landscapes and parks, in museums and libraries, places of worship and more. Heritage is integral to society.

Heritage Digital is a new project supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund’s Digital Skills for Heritage initiative, which aims to increase free digital skills training and support available to heritage organisations. Media Trust are part of a unique consortium, led by The Heritage Alliance, supported by Charity Digital and Naomi Korn Associates, which will create bespoke training, online guides and resources to up-skill the sector and build digital resilience.

Four areas to develop

The Heritage Digital consortium has identified four digital skill development areas that are most needed across the sector and have the potential to make the greatest impact:

  • Digital Marketing Strategy
  • Digital Communications
  • Digital Rights
  • Digital Tech

Media Trust will lead the Digital Marketing Strategy and Digital Communications skills training for the Heritage Digital project.

How can I take part?

The programme is open to any heritage organisation in the UK looking to improve their digital skills. This includes private, voluntary, independent or local authority owned organisations and the full breadth of heritage types:

  • Community heritage
  • Industrial, maritime and transport
  • Landscapes, parks and natural heritage
  • Museums, archives and libraries
  • Culture and memories

The Heritage Digital programme runs from July 2020 to August 2021 and will provide free virtual and face to face training, online guides and events covering the four digital themes including:

  • Webinars
  • Online Digital Guides
  • Digital Strategy Masterclasses
  • Specialist Masterclasses
  • Digital Days – a mini conference introducing the four key digital themes with talks, workshops and networking
